Welcome to the Plusnet Usergroup Website

The Plusnet Usergroup (PUG) is an independent group of users from Plusnet, MetroNet, Free-Online and Force9 using the whole range of products and services with a diverse and varied degree of knowledge and expertise.  (The doors are open for a volunteer from Madasafish to join us).

The group was conceived in April 2004 with the aim of being an independent and officially recognised group of individuals working with each other and with Plusnet to ensure that the products, services, support and facilities are the best we could ask for.

Originally launched in 2004 and totally revamped in December 2005/January 2006 this site is aimed at providing all users of Plusnet, Free-Online, Force9,  MetroNet and Madasafish with the latest Plusnet family news and updates, information on our activities, progress reports as well as a way of contacting us if you feel there is some way that we can help out.

Latest News

When the Plusnet UserGroup was formed in 2004 Plusnet was a much smaller ISP with each of its brands or virtual ISPs (vISPs), Plusnet, Force9, Free online and Metronet operating independent websites, registrations and forums. The UserGroup forums provided means for these vISP members to interact and share experience.

Over the years Plusnet has grown extensively, closing its secondary vISPs and focusing on its Plusnet brand with Community providing news and common forums for all members. Inevitably this has reduced usage of the UserGroup's public site and forums though the tools on its sister UserTools site are actively used.

The UserGroup now announces that it has opened discussions with Plusnet on the future of its website and benefits from moving the tools to an alternative location.

For the present new member registration on the forums has been disabled, but current members remain able to post.

Well four weeks on and things appear to be settling.   Sterling efforts by SPRAXYT to sort out a number of problems caused by the  PHP upgrade and a move to 64 bit architecture which affected the RSS Service Status feeds and reports.

One new problem today 26 Oct caused by the change from BST which needs to be resolved.
Minor change cleared 27 Oct.

PUGIT has been left limping along in a temporary state whilst we sort out the priority issues with Service Status, then we need to modify the AJAX code to work with PHP 5.3

The good news

After a bit of speedy action by Bob and the Network Engineers late yesterday to port a couple of missing configuration files the change over went as planned.

This item is being served by the new Server.

The less good news

An unexpected PHP error in the PUGIT code has meant that the PUGIT facility has had to be temporarily suspended.  The problem is being worked on with a view to restoring service ASAP

Limited service resumed 27/09/2014.   Work continues on resolving the original problem.
