PlusNet Launch Home Phone Service

This morning sees the launch and public rollout of PlusNet's much talked about Home Phone service.  Based on the 'Wholesale Line Rental' option from BT, PlusNet can now offer calls and line rental for your home landline as well as Broadband services - giving you one monthly bill / payment for all three.

Customers have been signing up to the new service since 4am this morning, but the Usergroup have raised the issue that extra charges for non-inclusive services such as Voicemail are not easy to find on the portal.

To these concerns, Neil Armstrong, Products Director, replied : "We're really happy that we've launched this new service and have several hundred customers signing up already. We've had some really useful feedback from PUG and our customers that some things like voicemail pricing are too hard to find. So we're creating some new pages right now, which will make it easier to find these other costs, which will be up in the next day or two."

Customers can choose from two call packages :
  • Anytime - Including Line Rental and 240 minutes of UK landline calls - Priced at £11/month.
  • Anytime+ - Including Line Rental and 1000 minutes for calls of which no more than 300 can be to the top 20 included international landlines - Priced at £15/month.
Whilst the Usergroup accept that the market is driving Internet Service Providers to offer more than just internet connections, we would have liked to have seen PlusNet's Support Provision improve before the rollout of a new and potentially complicated product.  We are yet to see just how well the Customer Support Centre are able to support home landline customers and will be closely watching.  Long delays on ticket responses and call wait queues are one thing for a faulty internet connection - but a different kettle of fish altogether for a broken landline.
