Hi all

The company i work for tried to get ADSL but it doesnt work over the distance even at 256k from the telephone exchange
Does anyone know if BT / Plusnet support ADSL2+ Annex L which is supposedly extended reach?
And if so would it be worth trying

We'll find out and get back to you, it's not something I've heard of us offering though.

*** Annex M availability is dependent on line conditions and costs £10 per month exc.VAT. It is available on request using the Help Assistant.
It is at the bottom of the page and is only available on Business Products

Not something we offer as a standard product but I'll ask Phil, our resident guru, to do a bit of digging for me.

Kind regards,

FYI all I've just spoken with Dave T re this who tells me that the reason this isn't offered at present is that it can cause cross-talk over the voice service.

Annex L is a ADSL2 option and not ADSL2+.

It increases the available frequencies for the upstream. However as noted, it can cause cross-talk.

I'm not sure it's presently allowed under the ANFP, for similar reasons on why Annex M on ADSL2+ is restricted (in the license) to lines not marked as Long.

hi guys

its a shame its not available

i dont think crosstalk would be a problem if it was only on the line in question
most business customers would prefer to have a dedicated line for broadband than pay 5k per year for a fiber leased line like we do

Right, got an official answer.

This will not be available. The ANFP prohibits it.

Thanks Phil an interesting read. graduate

Not exactly a categoric NO in there though?  Section 6.7 in particular gives some hope that it might work on some exchanges if the installed equipment etc was ADSL2+ compliant.  BUT!  Given the current fluidity in the pace of equipment change, I accept that in normal engineering practice the chance of having a successful 'one off' investigation must be vanishingly small lol

An interesting read nonetheless.
