This may be due to security settings - whilst the Kindle will happily connect immediately to unsecured wifi, you need to tweak the settings for secured connections (which I'd hope you are using Tongue)

In the Kindle, you can add a new wifi connection manually:
Go to Wifi settings, and if your current wifi shows up with the option to forget, cursor down to it and select "forget".
Now go down to "Enter other wifi network"
In the box that pops up, put the SSID of your wifi (this may be set to the router's default, or you may have changed it)
Leave the password blank for now.
Cursor to "Advanced"
In this box, the connection type should be DHCP (which will blank out the next 4 lines).
Change "Security type" to match the security used by your router (WEP, WPA or WPA2)
Put the password in and connect.

If you let us know which router you're using, we can probably explain this in more detail.

Hi, I'm having the same connection problem with my Kindle as the OP.  I've tried what you suggested and it still won't connect. The security key on our network is our own choice and I can log onto wifi on other devices such as laptops, phones.  I think our Router is a D-link ADSL.

Thanks

Hmm...
Which Kindle are you using? I've connected a Kindle Keyboard and a new Kindle to separate networks and they both went ok... though the newer model took umbrage initially - a second attempt worked fine.

Kindle 4. It connects to Wifi elsewhere with the password, but for some really strange reason, it won't connect to this one. Tried lots of things but nothing seems to work! Very frustrating.

I've got a Kindle3 and can confirm that it works fine with the Thomson 585.  Initially had the same issues as DHookham points out, but then it connected OK and has worked for months now.  Are you sure you have the correct password and security settings for your network?  In extremis, you may need to reset the WiFi password!   smiley

As another suggestion, try logging into the router and checking that the wifi hasn't been set to only allow connections from specified devices.  I can (and have) set my router's wifi to only connect to devices held in a list within the router.  If that is the case your other wifi devices may work if they had previously been added to the list in the router, but your new Kindle wouldn't.  If this is the problem you may have to either add your kindle to the approved list or change your router settings to not restrict connections to specific devices.

Shot in the dark, but if the SSID is hidden it might be worth changing that? I had problems connecting my Android phone to wifi with a hidden SSID but as soon as I set it to broadcast it was fine.
