can you provide the results we have asked for? simply commenting that it's bad without any indication of what is bad or wether it's your line stats etc aint too useful Wink

OK - There are several threads floating around and I figured it would be good to try and compile a single list of peoples speeds during Peak hours and Off Peak as well.

Could I please ask that discussion about speeds continue in other threads but we simply report speed tests as detailed below in this one so that the network guys can review this and get a picture of what is happening.

For consistency in all results could we all post the following info:

1) The Time the tests were taken and the Product you are on.

2) The Gateway in use (this can be found by visiting http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway)

3) A tracert to bbc.co.uk

4) Speedtests taken from http://www.speedtest.net using the Derby and the London Servers (post the images using the links they provide)

5) Using either DUMeter or NetMeter (setup exe linked) show the graph when downloading the PUG Al Wyse Interview (it's sat on our server and if we all download the same file it should give a consistent image - remember to clear your cache before downloading this if you have already watched it - which I'm sure you will have done Wink)

6) Post Router stats / synch speed where possible!

7) Also post any other information that may be relevant.

For the sake of collating info - any posts off topic will be moved elsewhere. I just think that it will be good to get as many people to provide as much info as possible - all relating to the same set of tests.

I have to say the speeds are bad compared with my alternative ISP (http://www.speedtest.net/result/72311520.png) taken just 30minutes earlier.

Annie,

There's no way you can compare the service you are getting with us to your other service provider.  Are you using SDSL/LLU for your alternate?

James

My alternative is a 2Meg line via WiMax (an antenna on the roof) whereas my PlusNet connection is supposedly 7.6Meg.

I tend to use my WiMax connection with the laptop(s), when my university based kids are home they use this connection as its via a router.

I'm interested to know why you think I can't compare the two?

Annie,

Because it's not an IPStream service. It's a completely different type of internet connection.

Is this thread still active, or were my two speedtest posts yesterday just me wasting my time ? If its not serving any further purpose, just remove it.  I would like some comments from someone in the know, if the difference in speeds and response between my 8pm tests (when the connection felt slower than my old ISDN line) to 12pm (which felt fine) are not the "expected" norm.  as of 8:30pm this evening, I fine my connection is like treacle, and yet my modem etc indicates everything is as before.  usertools exchange checker shows my exhange as green. Besides the speed difference, the one thing that stands out for me is that the ping time stated by the speedtest.net site is 3 times slower at bad times. Heres another test done just now, and again ping time is in the 150ms range.
