Presumably  http://freesat.co.uk/  gets the same site as the long URL shown...

One query that someone might be able to answer concerns "Five" (Channel 5) and when/ whether it will be available on Freesat sometime this year?   It might not appeal to everyone but I have enjoyed CSI and NCIS and some other shows, and would want to have one system to supply my TV rather than having to have a mix of boxes, long-term.

It might have also slipped the notice of some that Five isn't currently listed on Freesat so consider this a 'heads up' on that aspect...

Quite a lot of good debate over in usenet in the uk.tech.digital-tv forum.

I believe the channel 5 question was asked a month or so back, but I can't find the reference!  A very useful and helpful group if you ask politely wink

The above links to a mention about Chan 5. 9 paragraphs from the end.

Quote
Asked about Channel five, Freesat explained that they are not involved in the joint venture, and their channels will be on Freesat 'this year' due to some rights issues they have to sort out. Mr Thompson pointed out that the 'Channel 4 channels are on Freesat from day one, and we expect the 'five' channels to arrive very shortly once some of the finer points of channel fives rights are addresses. I find www.radioandtelly.co.uk a particularly helpful site for broadcast queries.  It has a good section on Freesat and I find its system for advising you on how best to hook up and connect varieties of kit particularly straightforward and useful.

EDIT:  Doh!! I've just realised I've already posted on this topic huh
As you get older your memory sometimes plays tricks - as in the pensioners' protest chant of "What do we want?" To which the reply is "Something or other but just give me a moment to collect my thoughts"

Many thanks for the links/comments and the quote about Channel 5 in particular.

I wonder if Five will join in with the BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 on "Project Kangaroo" if the OFT finally gives it the go-ahead after they spend the next N months reviewing it ( sorry, off-topic for this thread )

Not for me?  The overlap between Radio / TV / Internet is getting ever closer - let's share the interest and the knowledge.

There's a mention of Project Kangaroo over in the ThinkBroadband.com site news items.  (link takes you straight to this item).

And the long-awaited 'Freesat+' personal video recorder from Humax will appear on September 11th at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam
