I tried to enable the advertised 'spam filter' yesterday and was unable to find this option on my email settings.

I contacted customer support who advised me that I will have to pay £14.99 for this service as I have the wrong type of package. I pay £21.99 per month and was under the impression that this was the fully featured package. It turns out that only new customers get all the extra features and existing customers are receiving a lesser service!

I have been with F9 for over 4 years and on 512k ADSL for over 2. I can name loads of people who are currently on the service, who only heard of them due to my recommendation.

I was basically told, tough! that is what you signed up for. So much for offering excellent service to loyal customers. If your paying the premium rate, should you not be getting the premium service?
The service is really going down hill lately.
Has anybody else had similar problem? They only seem to be interested in swelling the numbers these days. Getting a bit too big for themselves.

Sometimes companies upset the wrong people. I work as a broadband engineer and I get asked for advise on the service on a daily basis. Guess who I'll not be recommending again!

I believe that you'll be getting SPAM & AV stuff on the old style accounts by the end of the year. Its being implemented over this time scale because the relevant systems couldn't cope with a sudden influx of users and work needs to be carried out so it won't die, which would be bad (I think that's whats happening anyway, no doubt someone from F9 will be along with the official line Cheesy ).

As side points, There was an 'old' style account that had AV & Spam it was the 'Easystart' Account, but unfortunately you can't transfer accross to this now Sad & the reason there is an admin fee to move to the new accounts is because they are CBC based, rather than the traditional BT wholesale charging structure, but being a Broadband engineer you'll know all about this so I won't bore you with all the details

Hi fleur,

Yep! I can appreciate how you feel, things like this annoy me too and I've been with F9 possibly longer than you (5years now). However, if you look at the general tend with ISP packages most other large scale ISP's now offer anti spamming and Anti virus services as part of their ordinary bog standard packages (even basic ones). I think its only a matter of time before F9 will have to offer this too inorder to remain competitive with other ISP's. Secondly, offering anti spamming & anti virus services is in all ISP's own interests, they dont want to have to spend time sorting out spam & viruses if they can help it.

**I take a fairly pragmatic approach to spamming, I use mailwasher which is still available as freeware, its very quick to install and configure and it works extremely effectively. Spam I dont even think about it now, I let mailwasher sort it all out. Highly recommend this software to anyone who is fed up with spam.

I too have been a F9 customer for longer than I can remember, and also feel that us old timers seem to miss out on the deals being offered to new customers.

I think PlusNet should offer the Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus as part of their default package similar to that of other leading ISP's, perhaps call it a loss leader - that way people are more likely to choose F9/PlusNet when comparing like for like.

Remember the more people who voice their concerns the more likely F9 will listen, simply ask and you never know!

And we will be, but the infrastructure cannot cope with moving all of our existing customer base onto the platform at the moment - which is why we have scheduled this to happen at the end of the year rather than doing it instantly.

A good email spam protection is choicemail free - i currently use this and have no problems with it.

If you pay for the registered version then you can do multiple emails

Another interesting note is if you regrade you WILL get the spamfilter/virus scanning facility as you will be switched onto a new account type.  I was quite surprised when I upgraded to 1Mbit and suddenly all my incoming mail said it had been virus scanned by F9.

I guess its also worth noting that I dont see the point in spamfilters that just mark a message with "SPAM" in the subject.  Most spam messages are easy to spot anyway, makes you want to shout at it "no [Censored] sherlock".

Hi there,

It deliberately marks the message as SPAM and does not delete it incase it marks a legitimate email as spam. You can set up message rules to delete the email accordingly.

I think you should look after the cutomers you already have BEFORE trying to entice new ones.

My two pennies worth....
