DNS problems (but not all the time)

« on 20/10/2007, 23:34 »
Most evenings i seem to have the problem that one of my work's websites can't be reached, basically i can't resolve the domain name, but the server it is hosted on i hosts other websites for my work and i can reach those websites. Is there any reason why in the evenings the DNS for this one site stops working?
I know for a fact that the website isnt actually down, this is something i've been experiencing for the last couple of months and i thought would just be a temporary problem. Im guessing i either need to cache the rdns locally or PN need to look at there dns(?)

Its always a good idea to have 2 dns setup on your pc from different isp so it gives you best of both worlds. use

    *  208.67.222.222
    * 208.67.220.220

Is your dns set to the isp or the router? If its the router then it could be the router thats getting swamped as that will have to pass its requests on the Plus net

I've had similar problems. Solved by running downstairs turning the router off and on again. But got fed up with that and PN said the fixed DNS IP addresses are:

North
212.159.13.49
212.159.13.50

East
212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10

Not sure if this is a PN issue, or Windows or my Router? But will see how it goes with fixed IP's. Seems theres quite a few DNS servers to choose from so not sure which ones to set.

I've had no DNS problems for months - ever since I started using http://treewalkdns.com/

12/18 month broadband contracts have been abolished - all Plusnet residential contracts (including for existing users) are now 10 days (however deferred charges such as activation or hardware may have to be paid if you leave within a year)
