Over the past year, BT have been trialling ADSL services of speeds up to 8Mbit/s. These trials have taken place on a limited number of telephone exchanges but are close to going live throughout the majority of exchanges in the UK.

On the 1st February, BT issued a spreadsheet to ISPs detailing the estimated timesales for the national roll-out... and the PlusNet UserGroup have been given permission to integrate this into the UserTools Exchange Checker.

Can I just re-affirm that these dates are estimated dates provided by BTw. This information has come direct from BTw, and are to be used as a guideline only.

Plusnet and the UserGroup have only issued this as a guideline since more and more users seem to be asking for information.

If your exchange is dated say as "estimated date of 31/03/06 ", and if this date comes and goes, then please do not complain to either Plusnet or the UserGroup as we can only provide you with information as provided to us.

Although we aim to update information as it is provided, the dates of actual upgrade is beyond our control.

Just like to say thanks - someone has obviously had to put some work in here to do the site update so quickly, and that is to be appreciated.

From today's announcement by BT it looks like the information being given by the exchange checker is totally irrelevant.

Plusnet have never suggested that there would be any delay between an exchange being MaxDSL enabled and users actually getting the faster speeds - but the BT announcement says that could be several months.

Any chance of someone finding out what the truth is?

Are PN going to make an announcement with facts rather than optomistic spin?

All we can do for now is re-affirm what was said above

That's fine as far as it goes. What needs adding is:

"Even after your exchange has been enabled, it may be several months before your individual line is upgraded".

For those of us that haven't seen said announcement, is there a link to it?

Just a heads up that the checker has today been updated with the latest info from BTw.

Apparently about 4,000 exchanges have now changed status, with many turning to amber with an estimated completion date of 31st of March.
